Boo! A-ha! Did I get your attention? I wouldn't want to start out my very important introductory entry by boring you all out there...so I hope that by reading this now you will be forever changed by my miraculous, one-of-a-kind, wise words...
Uhh... "Riiiight" you must be saying to yourself...this girl's gone crazy already and the process hasn't even begun!
No worries...I'm not crazy...yet. But I know that in a couple weeks when the deadlines start piling up, I will be. But before I go into that...let me just say a little about me!
My name is Nkechinyere...but please don't get all tongue-tied by trying to say it...(but if you really want to know, its pronounced "Inn-Ke-Cheen-Ye-Ray"). Yes, it's my real name and it's Nigerian...but typically, my friends just call me "Nikky". I live in Georgia and go to a Catholic, parochial, private school in Atlanta. It's not too big and not too small...there's about 250 students in each grade so it makes for a nice school community. And to answer your question—yes, we do wear uniforms, but no—we don't dance in the halls like a certain, famous music video.
This year I'm finally a senior (Class of 2007!), which I have been waiting for, but also dreading because of the obvious pressures that come along with it—the biggest one being college applications. My class load is pretty hefty. I'm taking 3 AP's (Calculus, English Literature, and Spanish) plus Economics, a Theology class, and Physics. Classes at my school can get pretty rigorous, so it's essential that you keep up and stay organized. That is something I always start out doing and somehow drift away from by the time the holidays come around. But this year, I can't stray away...because I must stay on top of things as well as keep up with ALL applications. Don't forget the fact that I also need to apply for some scholarships while keeping up with all my extracurricular activities, like being in Drama, National Honor Society, Model UN, as well as being Co-President of my school's Spanish Club, and the list goes on...
In my free time I like to ponder over the mysteries of the modern world, laugh with friends, listen to all types of music, and of course dance (usually at the most random times). You can usually find me in the halls of my high school joking with friends or on the highway-driving. Why you may ask? Well...it takes me about an hour each way to school (traffic in Atlanta is NOT your friend) so getting to school and back can be a chore. But, I deal with it. After high school I want to major in Neuroscience because it's a very unique combo of both some science and psychology, which sounds so interesting. But of course these things are never definite...and you never know with me because I'm always changing my mind.
Currently, for my college search, I have a couple of schools in mind. My list so far consists of University of Georgia, Case Western Reserve, Cornell University, Tulane, Emory University, and UNC at Chapel Hill. All of these schools I have researched and definitely like what I see...but there's always something in the back of my mind telling me to keep all options open. I keep thinking that there's some perfect college out there that I haven't found yet and if I don't keep looking, I just might miss it. But alas, that is the meaning of destiny. Where I end is where I end up...and I hope it is a place I love. I believe my grades, activities, and qualities are very good and that I have a unique style to offer to the right university. One thing I definitely am trying to do is actually go visit some colleges. University of Georgia and Emory won't be hard to do since they are in the area. For all the others schools that I may not be able to visit, I hope that I will be able to at least talk to a representative in order to show my interest.
But first, I need to actually START and FINISH applications or I won't get into any school...! So for now world, I must sign off and I look forward to writing again next month with an update of finished applications (uhh...hopefully?) and maybe even some free time with friends. So, Adios, Au Revoir, and catch ya later...!
