April 11th

Hey everybody!

I hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather as much as I am! It is beautiful here in North Carolina. It’s just so unbelievable that it’s already the middle of April. Schoolwork has finally calmed down and it’s time to get ready for finals, end of year testing and my senior trip!

We are going to Disney World in early May. We haven’t been in several years and it should be a lot of fun. It’s hard to imagine this being my last vacation with my family before I start college. It's amazing that time has gone by this fast. Of course I’m excited to go because it’s vacation, and it’s Disney World and my senior trip. But really, I’m just excited to go and spend time with my family before life gets crazy again.

It’s hard to believe time has gone by this fast and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, the thing that overwhelms me more than college itself is being away from my family. So for right now, I’m just going to relish my last two months of high school and enjoy my family and friends. And that sounds like a good plan to me.

Hope everybody out there is doing well. Talk to ya'll later :).

March 14th

Hey guys!

Sorry this is so short but I’m in the midst of writing three papers and four media reviews! I can’t wait until April. Spring will arrive and school will start to unwind and just SLOW DOWN period :). The weather is completely insane here in the South. On Saturday, it was snowing in Atlanta and felt like it could here and today it’s so hot I don’t even want to think about going outside.

Not too much new stuff going on here. March is a month I really don’t look forward to at all. It’s rainy, still cold, and the school load is crazy. I hope everybody is doing awesome and again, sorry it’s so short but I'm not sure my fingers could handle typing another word :)!

Talk to ya'll later!

February 22nd

Hey guys!

I hope everybody had an awesome Valentines Day :). Also, I hope that everyone is healthy and nobody has gotten the flu; it’s been so bad it’s almost like an epidemic.

Well nothing too much going on here. It’s actually kind of quiet with just about all of my major deadlines past. It’s quite refreshing actually. I only have about two and half months until senior year is over! I can’t believe that. All of the fun decisions are coming up now: ordering my class ring, cap and gown, honor cords, graduation invitations and completing the last pages of my last high school yearbook. This stuff is way more fun than filling out applications and writing essays! So if you ever get discouraged about how slow the process is going just remember that in a few months it will all be over and all you’ll have left is the fun stuff.

I’m still trying to decide what to do for my senior trip. I’m thinking about taking the train up to Maine or Connecticut, or maybe going somewhere in Florida or New York. There are just way too many options for a girl that can’t make decisions. But I’ve still got a little bit of time to think about that one; maybe I’ll even have it narrowed down by next time :).

I hope everybody is doing awesome! I’ll talk to ya'll later.

February 8th

Hey guys!

Hope everybody is doing awesome :). I’m sitting here typing and the sheers on my window are blowing in the breeze. Yes, that’s right, all of my windows are open and it’s the first week of February. Don’t know about where ya’ll are but it is gorgeous here in Charlotte. It’s February 8th and it’s 63°. And that’s just crazy (definitely the awesome kind of crazy).

Well, my decision is final about going to community college for my freshman year. I’ll start attending Liberty University the following year. Getting accustomed to college is going to be tough, especially since I’ll be away from home, so having this upcoming year will be good. It’s also a year for me to get some of my basic courses out of the way. That way, when I start at Liberty, I can focus on my major a little bit more. It’s good from a financial standpoint as well because we will have one more year before the cost of private, out-of-state college sets it.

Well I’ve got to run. I have to go give a presentation in my writing class. It’s going to be ugly, I can just feel it. Anyway, I hope everyone has an awesome Valentines Day :).

Talk to ya’ll soon.

January 25th

Hey! I hope everybody is doing awesome. January is gone! Can you believe it? I know I say this in ALL my posts but nevertheless, time sure does fly. This time of year is definitely the toughest part of the school year. It is right after Christmas break and you don’t really get a lot of time off again until spring break rolls around. During this time, the work load just seems endless.

Well, I’ve finally made a decision (at least for the moment). I’m definitely going to Central Piedmont Community College my freshman year and plan on attending Liberty University beginning my sophomore year. I’m still planning on pursuing a degree either in family/religious studies or sports marketing. I’m doing an advertising unit right now in one of my classes and I LOVE it, so that’s on the list too.

Well, needless to say, it’s been a tough couple of weeks. Neither the Colts nor Green Bay made it :(. And the Tarheels lost their first game :(. Nevertheless, the Super Bowl must go on, so go Patriots! It’s also time for Carolina to start a new winning streak :)!

I’ve got to run but I hope everybody is doing great and I’ll talk to y’all soon.

January 11th

Hey guys! I hope everybody had an amazing Christmas and a very happy New Year. It’s going to be 2009 before I get used to writing 2008 on everything :). As always, Christmas went by WAY too fast and it’s already the middle of January — that’s just insane.

Well, not too much going on here. I’m just getting back in the swing of things with school, which is probably the hardest thing ever. At the moment I’m really looking into going to Liberty University after one year at Central Piedmont Community College. I’m going up to Liberty for a weekend the first week in March. I’ll be attending their “College for a Weekend” program, which sounds awesome. You stay on campus, go to classes and seminars, and they have concerts all weekend. You can also attend their hockey and basketball games as well as go ice skating. However, I think for my safety as well as the safety of others, I’ll sit that one out. I’m really looking forward to that, and it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m also trying to decide where to go for my senior trip — decisions, decisions.

The Super Bowl is on the way! Go COLTS! As long as Dallas doesn’t win, peace in my family (and probably all of North Carolina for that matter) is kept :). NASCAR is almost here as well. I can just hear the hum of the engines as we speak.

I hope everybody is doing great and hopefully the transition back into school wasn’t too awful. Talk to ya'll later :).

December 7th

Hey everybody! I hope everyone is doing great and had an awesome Thanksgiving :). I am so ready for Christmas. Although it’s kind of hard to get into the Christmas spirit when it’s 73 degrees outside, but I’m definitely trying. I absolutely love this time of year, when you’re surrounded by your family and friends and we really get to celebrate the reason for Christmas: the birth of our Savior. I’m also very ready to have a couple of weeks off from school and, at least for a little while, take my mind off of all these decisions and applications. I just want to enjoy Christmas.

It’s amazing how fast this year has gone; I’ve always thought of 2008 as being so far into the future. I knew it was the year I’d graduate, but it felt so far off that I never really thought about it. But now it’s so close it’s scary and graduation is going to happen whether any of us are ready or not. Senior year can really take you by surprise if you’re not ready and it just makes you realize how fast life comes and goes and makes your memories all the more special.

I hope everyone has a merry Christmas and enjoys celebrating the season with their families.

November 16th

Hey guys! I hope everybody is doing great :). Fall has finally arrived and the leaves are beautiful. However, it’s getting COLD here in NC. It dropped from the 70s to the 40s overnight—crazy!

Well, not too much to report at the moment about applications and stuff like that. I should be hearing from Liberty soon since its rolling admissions. But I am seriously considering going to Central Piedmont Community College for a year and then entering Liberty my sophomore year. So that’s something to think about :). I had my senior pictures done last Saturday. Senior year still seems surreal, even though it’s almost half-way over. Well I hope everyone has an awesome Thanksgiving and good luck getting your Christmas shopping done—only 39 days left!

November 2nd

Hey guys - hope everybody is doing awesome. I cannot believe it’s NOVEMBER - that’s insane! There’s roughly 7 months until graduation. How crazy?! I am so excited for fall and winter to come though. I love the colors and all the holidays coming up. The weather is gorgeous here in North Carolina: it’s about 65 degrees - how perfect :).

Well just a little update, I applied to Liberty University yesterday. It’s rolling admission so hopefully I’ll hear from them soon. I was looking at Campbell, but I’m just not sure they offer enough of what I want to do.

Yesterday I did something every senior should do if they are unsure about what they want to study in college: Career Direct. It was awesome. They ask you over 500 questions about your interests, values, skills, personal qualities and all that stuff and then tell you what kind of job you would be good at and what kind of worker you are. It gives you a good idea of the majors that are out there that really fit you as a person. It took about 3 hours, but it was a lot of fun and definitely worth it. I actually learned a lot about my personality :). It’s designed for students, both high school and college, so it differs from the normal tests that are out there. It’s really awesome and really gives you great information.

Well I’m working on my application for UNCC as we speak so I will let you know as soon as I hear from them as well :) Talk to y’all later!

October 19th

It has been crazy :) This past month has been so busy - I am working on an essay as we speak, with many more to do. I’ve got just about all of the applications filled out except for the essays so I’m going to continue working on those. Senior pictures are coming up and I’m getting my senior page together for yearbook - it’s all coming together :) I can’t believe this is going to be my last high school picture ever. I didn’t think that day would ever come, lol. I don’t think the essays are ever going to end either. Hopefully within a couple of updates I won’t have to talk about essays anymore, lol. We’ll soon see :)

October 5th

Hey guys - sorry but this is going to be short and sweet :). This past week has been insane—it was my birthday :):):). It was definitely fun, but I have so many papers due and running to classes and I’m working on my applications and the essays as we speak. I just want to get those done as soon as possible and send them in and be done with them, lol. I want it to be one less thing on my mind. I gotta run to class :):):). Hopefully by the next update all of this chaos will be gone. Probably not, but I can hope :).

September 21st

Hey everybody-

The past couple of weeks have been really busy. I have been out of town on and off for 2 weeks now and needless to say, the homework doesn’t stop piling up when you’re gone. Senior year is in full swing, not a good thing when I still want it to be summer. I’m trying to get back into the school mode but it’s proving to be a difficult task, especially since summer flew by. Senior year looks to do the same. It’s almost the end of September - where did that come from? It really hits me that I’m a senior just by looking at the applications that are patiently awaiting me to fill them out and all of the decisions yet to be made. And it doesn’t help that I am hands down the worst decision maker ever :). But for right now its just school as usual. I’m not completely overwhelmed yet. Give it time I guess. I absolutely love this part of the year though. My birthday is next week, the weather is gorgeous, the leaves will be changing soon and I love all of the holidays coming up. Well, I have a really busy day tomorrow so I better run. Talk to y’all soon :).

Introduction

Hi! I’m Emily. I’m 16 and a home schooled senior at Covenant Christian Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina. I can’t believe its senior year already. “Class of 08” always seemed so far down the road and all of the sudden its here. It’s been quite a ride these past thirteen years, with all of the homework, classes, homework, friends and more homework. Its hard to believe in just nine months it will all be over. Even though senior year is scary because you have no idea what’s to come, it’s that much more exciting as you close one chapter of your life and prepare to start another. I’m thrilled to start senior year and share it with all of yall! So let’s get started :)

I have a brother, Matthew, who is 11 and is in the sixth grade and is also home schooled. This is our third year home schooling and I love it. I’ve been in public and private schools and home school is by far the best.

I love living in Charlotte; it’s the best place in the world to live. Except on days such as this: 98 degrees with an insane amount of humidity. The air is so thick you can almost see it. But other than that I really can’t imagine being anywhere else. I also love sports. Please don’t be misled—I don’t play sports—I just love to watch them. Anyone who knows me will testify that I have no hand-eye coordination whatsoever. But I am perfectly fine with watching from the stands. I absolutely love racing and what better place to be than NASCAR Nation itself. I also love football, baseball, and hockey when the Hurricanes are winning, and of course, the best college basketball in the nation: Tar Heel basketball.

So now for a little bit about my college search. I’m looking at going to either UNCC or Campbell and studying either nursing (neonatal), family studies, or public relations/sports marketing. I have always loved children and as far back as I can remember I was set on being a pediatrician until I was informed it took almost forever to get done with school so I decided neonatal nursing was just going to have to suffice. Family studies is a recent major that I found Campbell offered while searching their site. It includes careers such as research in child development, child health, parent education programs, and child welfare. Public relations/sports marketing has been an interest of mine for a couple of years now and I’m excited to see how it plays out. I’m also looking forward to seeing how my interests change as my senior year progresses. It should be interesting.

Hope that’s enough about me. I’m very excited to get started and experience senior year and all of the preparation that comes with starting college. Hope you enjoy the ride with me :).
