SAT Math Section
The SAT Math Section consists of problem solving and grid-in questions. You'll answer questions on topics you've learned in school, including geometry, Algebra II and arithmetic.
SAT Math Section Breakdown
- 54 questions total: 44 multiple-choice and 10 grid-in questions
- Topics: Basic Arithmetic, Algebra I & II, and Geometry
- 70 minute total: two 25-minute sections and one 20-minute section
- Scored on a 200 to 800 point scale
- Calculator use is allowed but not required
SAT Algebra II Questions
While the PSAT does not test Algebra II, there are a handful of Algebra II questions on the SAT Math Section. Find out whether you’re ready by taking a free practice test.
Trig Anyone?
You will not need to use your knowledge of sines, cosines, and tangents--the triangle problems that test these concepts can be solved by using the Pythagorean Theorem or special right triangles.
What Else?
A few things to study include: Sets, Absolute Value, Radical Equations, Exponents, and Functions.
Calculators?
Calculators are not required but they are allowed.
