The Princeton Review is the country's leading provider of low-stakes formative assessment, on paper and online. We didn't get there with a cookie-cutter approach: we understand that every district's needs are different, even if their goals are the same.

Conventional testing companies approach assessment as scientists, not educators. Courseware or distance-learning providers see it as an add-on designed mostly to increase the usage of their other products. Only The Princeton Review approaches formative assessment with 20 years of experience in using it to support teachers and administrators in differentiating instruction and professional development. Alone among potential partners, we are large enough to take on almost any project but small enough to provide you with responsiveness and a true spirit of partnership.

The Princeton Review's assessment programs offer:

  • Alignment to your basal curriculum, scope, and sequence, and state and local standards.
  • Frequency and Delivery in assessment administration. You tell us how long and how often, online or paper-and-pencil, and whether you'd like to scan locally or have us handle it all.
  • Valid—We ensure that our questions and assessments meet the highest standards of psychometric analysis and reflect the look and feel of your state's tests.
  • Linked to Actionable Reporting—Formative assessments are only useful if teachers, administrators, students, and parents can easily interpret results and take appropriate action based on the data.
  • Tied to Instructional Resources—Teachers struggle to find remediation resources that encourage students to continue working on a skill they have not yet mastered. With over 12,000 native instructional resources, we also have the ability to link to Plato, Skills Tutor, Teachscape, and almost any other district resources.
  • Blending Benchmark and Teacher-driven Assessment—Once a learning loop has been initiated, we provide a question pool of almost 250,000 math, ELA, and reading items for grades 3-11; each is tied to state and national standards and assessments to allow for more specific follow-up assessment. This fall, we will offer items for science and social studies as well.
