The Princeton Review creates extended-day, summer school, and SES programs that can help you boost academic performance and close your achievement gaps.
SideStreetsTM: An Intervention Solution that Meets Your Needs
Faced with demanding No Child Left Behind requirements, educators want to do everything possible to improve student achievement and ensure that their districts
make Adequate Yearly Progress.
Research shows that effective instruction includes quality curriculum targeted at the appropriate level for each student. When teachers engage students in the learning process and students are able to spend the proper amount of time on the skills they are having difficulty with, they are more apt to succeed.*
SideStreets provides engaging, guided classroom instruction that meets students at their level. The program is uniquely designed to build students’ essential skills, step-by-step, so underperforming students can move quickly toward proficiency.
SideStreets makes student and teacher success possible. Students and teachers excel with SideStreets because they are given instructional materials developed specifically to address their needs.
SideStreets is aligned to state and national standards and includes a full set of course materials for reading grades 1–8 and mathematics grades 1–pre-algebra that are designed to help struggling students improve essential skills.

Lightning Math:TM: A New Approach to Algebra Readiness
Lightning Math is a full-year course for students in grades 7 and up who are unprepared for algebra. The course is different because it acknowledges that students have to return to number sense and operations in order to rebuild their foundation. Students review these skills and extend them in ways that connect to algebra. They are prompted to step back and discover the structure that underlies numbers and their relationships and make the leap from concrete procedures to abstract principles.
At its core, Lightning Math
- Starts at the very beginning of math instruction with an investigation of the base-ten place-value system and continues through basic arithmetic to rebuild skills that are key to success in algebra
- Focuses on algebraic thinking by helping students discover the structure that underlies numbers and their relationships
- Requires students to demonstrate true understanding beyond rote learning by asking them to explain mathematical concepts in their own words through daily journaling
- Engages students with hands-on activities, mathematical scenarios that have real-world relevance, and challenging problems that require them to explore multiple problem-solving strategies

Supplemental Educational Services
The Princeton Review is committed to helping districts and schools improve academic achievement in grades K-12. As a leading provider of SES, we work with districts to implement programs that meet the specific learning needs of your students. All of our programs feature dynamic teachers, individualized learning plans, ongoing reporting, and lessons, materials, and assessments that are aligned to state and district standards.
Our Programs
The Princeton Review's SES programs focus on the development of key skills in mathematics, English language arts and reading. Through a combination of customized materials (aligned to each state's and district's content standards), sound teaching methods, and individualized learning plans, our courses help students to measurably improve academic performance. All of our SES programs feature the following:
- Customized, standards-based content and materials
- Rigorously trained teachers
- Benchmark assessments; up to 3 per course
- Mid-session and end-of-program progress reports for students and school administrators
- Average class size of 6 to 8 students
- Individualized learning plans
Assessment and Reporting
Assessments are an important component of our SES program. They help our teachers to quickly and accurately analyze student progress throughout the course and ensure that each student receives the attention that he or she most needs.
Parents, teachers, and administrators are provided with detailed reports at the start, mid-point, and conclusion of the program. These highlight specific areas of progress and difficulty on key topics measured by state standards.
Administrative Excellence
We are recognized by administrators throughout the country for our superior program delivery and implementation. Our dedicated staff handles all aspects of the program from start to finish, from teacher recruitment and training and parent outreach initiatives, to curriculum planning and on-site program support. Our goal is to provide all students with a safe and motivating classroom environment that promotes academic achievement.
Measurable Results
- A national poll conducted by ESchool News named The Princeton Review as one of the top 3 providers of SES programs.
- In 2004, Chicago Public Schools rated The Princeton Review as one of the best providers of SES programs in their system.
- In Lynn, Massachusetts, all of our SES schools went on to achieve their AYP goals.
- Besides New York, our growing list of SES partner districts includes Boston Public Schools, Oakland Unified School District, Chicago Public Schools, and Memphis City Public Schools.
