School's environmental commitment:
1: The Mendoza College weaves sustainability issues into core courses in multiple disciplines at the graduate and undergraduate level. A team of Notre Dame MBA won the Leeds Net Impact Case Competition by drawing on sustainability coursework to present utility company Xcel with viable business solutions for expanding energy concerns. Faculty participate in conferences and workshops on sustainability, including the University’s annual Green Summit, the Sustainable Office Practices program and The Natural Step, to enhance the ability to incorporate innovative and emerging trends. Cross-disciplinary meetings are convened to discuss curricular and operational activities within the College that focus on the area of sustainability.
2: Commitment to sustainability within our physical plant has become a priority. Initiatives include: Printer settings - the default setting for all student printers within the College is duplex; PC power conservation – classroom and computer lab PCs within the College have aggressive power saving settings, and include “sleeping” PC monitors. The lighting in the College atrium are manually controlled and usage is monitored.
3: Recycling efforts continue to increase. The College has significantly increased the number and visibility of recycling bins located within the College. “Bring your own mug/cup” initiative continues to draw participation. Canned soda and refreshments have been replaced with a fountain delivery system. A hot/cold water cooler has replaced refrigerated flats of bottled water. Recyclable cups are available for guests.
