Sauder School of Business Students Say...

The Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia offers both a 15month full-time and 28-month part-time MBA in the Robert H. Lee Graduate School. The full-time program convenes at the school’s 100-acre campus west of Vancouver’s downtown core; the part-time program meets at the school’s downtown campus in Robson Square.

Sauder’s full-time program commences with a fully integrated core curriculum that “integrates 11 subjects to create one hectic but excellent learning environment.” Students describe this intensive 13-week sequence, which imposes a heavy workload and requires a high level of complex analysis, as a boot camp-like experience. The remainder of the program is devoted primarily to specialization electives and professional development. Students tell us that finance is one of the school’s strongest areas, although supply chain management, entrepreneurship, and international business also earn praise. An “option to partake in international exchange and an internship” during the final six months of the program means students can leave UBC with two unique and valuable experiences; the former reinforces the international focus of the curriculum as a whole.

Part-time students at Sauder experience the same faculty and curriculum as do full-timers, including the rigorous Integrated Core. The chief difference is scheduling; the part-time program is offered on Friday evenings and on weekends to accommodate students’ work schedules. Students in both the full-time and part-time programs describe professors as “a mixed bag. Some are excellent scholars, some are accomplished business leaders, but others don’t seem fit to teach master’s level courses. Thankfully this last group is a minority.”

They also tell us that “The support the MBAs receive from the dean, the library staff, the career center, and the MBA office is unbelievable” and that “UBC also has excellent research facilities.” More More
