Finance is the area in which Tippie’s reputation is the strongest; marketing is another of the school’s strengths. Both full-time and part-time students complete a comprehensive core curriculum before undertaking a concentration. Students report that instruction is best in concentration courses but that, throughout the curriculum, “Academics are strenuous and relevant. There is meaning in what we learn.” The program is “very focused on the core skills and knowledge set rather than on chasing fads or flights of fancy.” The relatively small size of the program means that it’s a very personalized experience. “Professors, administrators, and classmates know one another personally and service is given on a one-on-one basis.” Students also recognize drawbacks to the size of their program, telling us that “it prevents us from being ranked highly by publications that rely heavily on feedback from a random pool of potential employers because we don’t send a great deal of people to California or New York.”
Tippie professors “are both good teachers and cutting-edge researchers.” Professors typically “have business experience through consulting, owning consulting companies, or [working] in business before teaching. They are not afraid to challenge you to work to your potential. Most really care about preparing you and try to give you the edge to be successful.” They also “concentrate on our learning; an A is great, but learning the material is more important than a grade.” Administrators “are passionate about the success of this program, and are in touch with students’ needs.”
