According to students, UNO MBAs form a "close-knit group, even though [they] have few out-of-class activities because most of the students have responsibilities outside of school." As one student says, "Other than networking through the various clubs and associations, the extracurriculars are limited to the undergraduate population." MBAs are friendly enough to watch out for each other, students say. One student adds, "We become friends, and we all use the friendships developed at school to network and that eventually leads to new jobs. Also, because all the students know each other, they get guidance from each other on what classes are better and the teaching styles of the professors."

UNO is the state's only metropolitan-area university, and this allows it to offer some of the best student-business connections available in Nebraska. Major employers in the city include Alegent Health, ConAgra, First Data Corporation, Methodist Health, Mutual of Omaha, Odyssey Staffing, Staff Mid-America, Union Pacific, and West Corporation. Omaha's metropolitan population of over 600,000 supports a variety of museums, the world's best-endowed community theater, and a zoo.
