A few blocks from Bucknell in the restored downtown area is an antique-filled bed-and-breakfast, the Pineapple Inn (439 Market St.; 570-524-6200). Built in the 1850s, it has an inexpensive to moderate rate that includes a full breakfast and tea in the afternoon. Another bed and breakfast located just a few blocks from campus is The Tawsty Flower (106 S. 4th St., 522-6600)and a third just a little farther on Market Street is the Copper Beech Manor. (17 Market St., 570-524-1460) Many inexpensive and moderate motels and hotels are located in and around Lewisburg, particularly along U.S. Rte. 15. These include: Days Inn (570-523-1171), only 1 mile away; Best Western Country Cupboard Inn (570-524-5500),Country Inn and Suites (570-524-6600) and Hampton Inn (522-8500), about 2 miles from the university; Comfort Inn (570-568-8000), and Holiday Inn Express (570- 568-1100), 8 miles away in New Columbia at the junction of Rtes. 15 and 80; and Hampton Inn (570-743-2223), 10 miles south of campus on Rte. 15 in Shamokin Dam.

Local Accommodations: Far Away:
If you're traveling east of the university on I-80, stop at the Inn at Turkey Hill (991 Central Rd., Bloomsburg; 717-387-1500) in a historic town on the Susquehanna River, 45 minutes from Bucknell (use Exit 35 from I-80). This inn is part old farmhouse and part modern wing, and its dining rooms serve a delicious dinner. If you're visiting Bucknell during the summer or early fall, consider making a little detour to the northeast (about a 75-minute drive) to the charming Victorian village of Eagles Mere, a popular resort town in the 1920s. Here you will find Eagles Mere Inn, a delightful country place with rates in the expensive range (but they include breakfast and dinner). From November to March, the inn is open only on weekends; from March 15 to April 15 it is completely closed. Consider also a bed-and-breakfast in Williamsport: Reighard House (1323 E. 3rd St.; 570-326-3593) is 2 blocks east of the Faxon Rd. exit from I-80. This Victorian home has 6 guest rooms with private baths and other modern amenities. Rates range from inexpensive to moderate.
