Special Academic Emphases / Unique Programs: The Fletcher School's curriculum is notable for its flexibility. Students choose from 19 different fields of study with the option of designing their own. Fletcher students can further customize their curriculum with many exchange and study abroad options. The thesis requirement also provides a unique study opportunity as students are able to partner with a professor to help them develop a specialized area of expertise. Because Fletcher faculty are dedicated to graduate education, they have the time and resources to engage with students individually. The Fletcher faculty and facilities are dedicated to graduate education and the school caters to professionals. As such, Fletcher is fundamentally interdisciplinary and does not have a traditional departmental structure. Instead, issues are approached across disciplines and courses are divided into three divisions: International Law and Organizations; Diplomacy, History and Politics; and Economics and International Business.
