School-Supported Research Centers or Resources
  • Recognizing the need for enhanced and dedicated didactic, laboratory, study and social space for our medical students, we have made significant investments in our facilities over the last several years. Beginning in 2007, our student teaching on the main campus is primarily located in our new, state of the art School of Medicine Building, which provides an exceptional facility for our students. This facility includes an anatomy lab which can accommodate up to 156 students, a fresh tissue lab, 3 large group lecture rooms, 4 midsize classrooms, 2 computer classrooms, a distance learning facility, and multiple small group classrooms and small study areas.
  • In addition to these facilities, the new School of Medicine building also has a Clinical Skills Center, comprised of 16 exam rooms divided into four pods. Each pod consists of a central open space configured as a teaching area for small groups, surrounded by four of the 16 exam rooms. The new School of Medicine Building also houses Emory's Center for Experiential Learning which is devoted to healthcare simulation. This area houses a simulated operating suite, a simulated ICU room, a simulated resuscitation bay in addition to a large area devoted to "low fidelity" simulation. Both task trainers and high fidelity human simulators are used in these areas. In each facility the exam rooms are equipped with two high resolution cameras to allow remote viewing of the student-patient encounter and recording of the encounter for student education, quality assurance and research purposes.
  • Additional facilities include the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience, the Center for Health in Aging, the Center for Injury Control, the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease, the Centers for Surgical Anatomy and Technique, the Emory Sleep Center, the Emory Alzheimer’s Disease Center, the Emory Comprehensive Parkinson’s Disease Center, the Stroke Center, the Emory Vaccine Center, the Emory Autism Center, the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady Health System, the Ponce De Leon Center (HIV research), the Emory-Georgia Tech Biomedical Technology Research Center, and the Georgia Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Grady Health System.
