Campus Life
General Information: Columbia attracts an extremely diverse, nationally represented student body. About 10 percent of students are underrepresented minorities. There is a wide age range among incoming students, with significant numbers of students in their late 20s and 30s.
Student Life: Despite the rigorous schedule, student life abounds at Columbia. Medical students have access to the recreational and athletic facilities of Columbia University and to university-sponsored cultural events. The P&S Club, the oldest student organization of its kind at any medical school in America, provides a variety of extracurricular activities. Students have opportunities in the fine arts, athletics, and service-oriented projects. In addition, Manhattan offers unparalleled access to museums, concerts, and every imaginable type of dining. Most students live in on-campus housing, which helps make New York affordable. Both residential halls and apartments buildings are available. Newly accepted married students are guaranteed married-student housing.
