Campus Life
General Information: While medical students are primarily Canadian, the student body at the University of Calgary includes several hundred international students. Within the Faculty of Medicine, women compromise about 50 percent of students. The majority of medical students are from within the province of Alberta.
Student Life: Student life is enhanced by campus activities, the resources of the community and city of Calgary, and the wide range of outdoor activities available. Nearby national parks, such as Banff and Jasper, offer skiing and hiking. The region also has vibrant wildlife and areas for fishing, swimming,and canoeing. In addition to its academic facilities, the Health Sciences Center includes a medical bookstore, exercise room, student lounge, cafeteria, and mall area. Medical students also have access to the resources of the greater university, including complete athletic and recreational facilities, intramural sports programs, outdoor programs, arts, and theatre. The University Student Union organizes events and activities and operates a bookstore, cafe, and bar, along with other services. On-campus housing is available for single and married students. An off-campus registry is managed by the student union.
