General Information: Students are selected from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many entering students have recently completed premedical undergraduate coursework. However, there are also non-traditional students who have been practicing as allied health professionals. While over 85% of AUC students are U.S. residents, only two-thirds of these are native citizens. This international orientation assures a richly diverse student body with the opportunity for students to become familiar with the increasing mix of cultures that they will likely encounter throughout their professional career. The gender ratio at AUC is fairly split between male and female students.
Student Life: The Basic Medical Sciences campus at AUC is located in the reputable world-class tourist destination of St. Maarten, where English is commonly spoken, U.S. currency is accepted throughout, and the standard of living is unsurpassed in the Caribbean. Housing facilities consist of new and fully furnished apartments with kitchens, ocean views, and recreational amenities that are within a 5-minute walk to campus. Student resources include a student government association, medical fraternity, medical honor society, local AMSA and CMDA chapters, and a spouses organization serving the families and significant others of students. At AUC, students are encouraged to participate in student organizations and extracurricular activities such as volunteer projects benefiting the St. Maarten community.
