Official Statement Regarding Pricing

The Princeton Review offers four different prices for our in person and online SAT tutoring based solely on the geographical region in which the product is offered.  These regions are not drawn at the neighborhood level, but instead are entire cities, regions or states, where pricing is based on what it costs to run our business and the competitive attributes there.

This is a ubiquitous practice across all commerce, both online and offline.  People pay more for goods and services in places like New York and Los Angeles than they do in places like Oklahoma City and Omaha. That’s true for food, rent, child care and yes, tutoring.

To equate the incidental differences in cost that commonly occur from this type of geographic based pricing with discrimination misconstrues both the literal, legal and moral meaning of the word.

Pricing FAQs

Q: How does The Princeton Review price services?

A: We offer a range of products and services from books and online tutorials that do not include an instructor to classroom courses and tutoring that includes one of our private instructors.  Our online tutorials that feature videos and practice questions are the same price across the country.  Services such as tutoring which includes an instructor are priced by four geographic areas based on the costs of hiring great tutors and local competition.

Q:  How are prices set for tutoring services?

A:  The Princeton Review offers four different prices for our tutoring services (offered both in person and online) based entirely on the geographical region in which the service is offered.  About 75% of the country is at our base price.

Q:  Why do services cost more in certain cities?

A:  Our pricing is based on the differential costs of finding and paying great tutors as well as local competition.

Q:  Why are online and in person tutoring the same price?

A:  Our private tutoring services match a great local tutor to a student based on the student’s needs and schedule.  Tutors may work with a student across the kitchen table or online – whatever is more convenient for the student.  The service offered is exactly the same and so is the price.

Q:  Do certain groups of people pay more for tutoring?

A:  No.  The only thing we take into account when setting our pricing is the geographic area where a family lives.

Q:  How can we find out more about your pricing?

A:  All of our pricing is displayed right on our web site making it easy for families to compare services and make the right decision for their needs.
