Career Experience
During the 3 years I was working on getting my master's degree, I was a tutor at the writing center at my university. I worked one-on-one with students of all levels, from freshmen to graduate students, on various writing assignments. I helped students with everything that academic writing entails: brainstorming what to write, helping them fix clarification issues, restructuring sentences or parts of their writing that did not flow well, choosing better word choices, and formatting the body of their essays and citations for MLA, APA, ASA, and Chicago. After 2 years of being a tutor at the writing center, I became the senior-most tutor and was in charge of constructing new tutor training materials and training the new tutors. In addition to my time tutoring, I also spent a semester teaching English to a class of freshmen. I was solely responsible for creating the syllabus and assignments, making my own teaching materials, constructing quizzes and tests, assigning essay prompts, and grading all assignments.
I Love Tutoring Because
I like to help students learn, and I genuinely enjoy teaching them about English and writing. My previous educational roles prepared me to work with students of various writing levels. Having both taught multiple students at a time and worked with students one-on-one, I know every student is unique in how they learn and write. No matter the skill level of the student, I want to help them understand and develop their English and writing skills in a way that is best suited for them. My goal is to ultimately help students feel more confident in their writing.
