#### Career Experience

I enlisted in the Navy right after college into the Nuclear Power Program. This was where I learned that if I pushed hard enough, I could learn and do just about anything. After a few years of service, I worked retail to pay some bills before going back to college. I pursued a degree in mathematics because I love to solve problems and use the knowledge to explain the real world. My Calculus I professor told us that she was unable to make it to the final review and asked me if I was willing to hold it. I was able to explain complex concepts in ways that they could understand... that was when I realized I wanted to tutor. Since then, I've tutored at the community college I attended (currently tutoring mathematics, physics, and engineering courses). For a brief period, we offered online tutoring services to replace the online program we had already in place (third company), but it was too difficult to get the school to switch over to a new system. For a few years, I tutored at a math learning center where I tutored children from elementary to high school.

#### I Love Tutoring Because

when I help people overcome obstacles, they build confidence to overcome others. The classroom experience can be very fast paced and intimidating at times, where a tutor session is a personal one-on-one experience. Here, tutors and students get to know each other and form a bond. The tutor gets to know what learning styles work best while the student gets to understand how the tutor explains concepts. Tutoring is also a continuous learning environment. I'm always finding new ways to explain concepts which help me build a deeper understanding for mathematics.
