Career Experience
Actuarial science was one of the career options for people with math degrees. Out of college, I worked in the actuarial, benefits and compensation department in a large consulting firm. Then, I moved to one of our clients in auto and home insurance for the rest of my career. With that company over the years, I worked in many different departments - actuarial, underwriting, finance, marketing, IT, data governance - but was always in a data and analytics role. I've always tried to relate the abstract concepts of math and analytics to the practical business operations to make real impacts for the company. Because of that perspective, it allowed me to communicate to people of all types in the organization. I was always the one who tried to make sure that everyone understood what we were trying to accomplish and how we were going to do it. It made for better teamwork, and a higher quality product delivered. These skills are ideal for tutoring too.
I Love Tutoring Because
I believe that understanding is the key to learning, and I believe everyone has the capability of understanding - we just have to find the way of explaining the subject that works for the individual student. Since everyone is different, we just have to find that right way of explaining for you.
