There was some initial confusion in the beginning. Some sort of structure like the demonstrate performance teaching method would do well here. The Tutor demonstrates first. Then the Student follows the tutor a second time. Then the student attempts with prompts from the tutor and then the student performs the work alone with tutor supervision.
