Career Experience
I was a public school teacher for 10 years. I was lauded for my excellence in math knowledge, teaching and communicating with students, while at the same time often criticized for not working and playing well with administrators, some other teachers, and even some parents (though 99% of the did love me!) Eventually I realized that being a public school teacher required a type A personality and an ability to navigate a rough political climate - two things which I unfortunately lack. Instead of working for public schools, I chose to tutor online because I get to help students without dealing with public school stakeholders. I have also taught college statistics, calculus, and developmental math as an adjunct for 8 semesters plus summers. After my first semester, my classes were packed to the gills with students who were eager to learn from a knowledgeable pedagogue who cares deeply about students and what and how they learn, who is perhaps a little unusual. I vow to bring these things to all our sessions to maximize learning!
I Love Tutoring Because
I like working with students one-on-one. Instead of trying to teach several students at once employing 4 different learning styles at the same time, which isn't always possible, I get to figure out the learning style of the individual in front of me and reach her/him that way. I have trained myself to learn what the student needs and what knowledge the student enters the session with, using just a few quick questions, and then the learning commences. Before you know it, we've solved the problem. Or I should say "you've" solved it, because I will draw out all the knowledge you have and use that knowledge to bring about more understanding than you thought you would have before the session began! If you're looking for a tutor who really cares, schedule a session with me! I hope to work with you soon!
