Faculty Information

Students Say

The Online MBA program at the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business offers "a prestigious education through a flexible platform" in which students may visit campus for short periods of time. Students choose USC Marshall for "the flexibility of the program," which allows them to continue to maintain demanding careers while earning their advanced degree. One student explains, "The flexibility allowed me to attend a top university, get the same rigorous academic learning while not sacrificing being employed and without having to move." In particular, "when looking at all available online programs, USC stood out as the most prestigious school that did not require any in-person coursework or trips outside of the orientation at the beginning." The student body comes from a variety of fields, including healthcare, technology, and the military: "My cohort is a diverse mix of experienced, knowledgeable, and intellectually curious professionals, who strive every day to continue learning and growing in their careers." Not only are they "intelligent" and "experienced in their fields," but they are also "kind, helpful, [and] collaborative." USC's Online MBA class sizes are small, and students enjoy team projects and networking through tools such as WhatsApp, email, and discussion boards. Various presentation tools, such as Zoom, and the "professionally tailored Canvas learning platform" work great for the online environment, and students considered the technology "convenient" as well as "current and relevant." As one Online MBA student remarks, "I felt like I was in a class even though we were in virtual sessions." In addition to praising their classmates, students count the "intelligent and established faculty and staff" as USC's greatest strength. They say, "Succeeding in this program is about commitment, priorities and making choices to achieve a work-life balance. It's difficult but can be done." After all, they understand that "it's a short-term sacrifice for long-term gain."

Students Say

To facilitate a connection to the school and to classmates and professors, USC Marshall hosts a one-week immersion program during the first course in which Online MBA students work side-by-side with each other at the Los Angeles campus. Students say, "It is one of the few times we are all together and was important for the building blocks of the bonds we have today." Students call the intensive "great" and say that because of it "we formed a true cohort relationship during that week." In fact, they say, "More opportunities for immersion programs would be welcome." In particular, "the program could improve by having an overseas project that could give us some hands on experience and networking." After all, "USC is a world renowned university with an expansive network and global reach." Students know "USC has a remarkable network," and they feel the program could improve by having "more opportunities to connect with alumni" and "continuing to build a robust career services for the online cohorts as the program matures." Overall, though, USC students feel that "this program has made me far more valuable at my job. I can understand the business landscape outside of my department far better."
