Students Say

Tucked away in western Michigan, Grand Valley State University promises both "affordability" and a celebrated reputation. Indeed, the MBA program at Grand Valley offers "a great education in a great location." The MBA program is geared toward working professionals, but experience is not required. The traditional MBA offers a balance of both business theory and practical application. There is a heavy emphasis on applied research and group projects, helping students hone their problem-solving abilities. Moreover, MBA candidates are required to take a large number of core courses, ensuring they have a breadth of knowledge and a strong foundation in business fundamentals. These courses range from Contemporary Managerial Accounting and Marketing Management to Global Competitiveness, Strategy and Operations, and Supply Chain Management. Additionally, MBA students may choose to focus in finance, innovation and technology management, or health sector management. MBA students at Grand Valley truly appreciate their "smart" and "efficient" professors. They work diligently to "instill real-world principles" in their students and know how to demonstrate "solutions to everyday business problems." A pleased student shares, "Professors all have real-world experience, which makes a very big difference in the quality of education. They aren't just talking about what they think it is like in the business world; they can honestly say 'when I worked on a project like this' or 'when I was Project Manager/CFO.' It makes a big difference not only in quality but the amount of respect they are given from the student body." Students are also full of praise for the "incredible" administration, which "seems to run fairly smoothly." They always appear "well prepared," and it is very clear that they "truly care about the students."

Career overview

Students Say

The Seidman MBA is a program primarily for working professionals. Most students are employed when they begin their MBA studies and remain employed by the same firms when they graduate. However, there are a handful of students interested in pursuing new career options and professional opportunities, and they do feel that Grand Valley's career services can be lacking. Many would appreciate if the office became "more visible and helpful." As one somewhat frustrated student expounds, "Career Services should help expose students to jobs and internships and to business people in the community in order to help us get better jobs. They need to foster introductions with those companies that strongly value a MBA from GVSU."
