Faculty Information

Students Say

The Jack Welch Management Institute Online MBA draws many professionals who value the "leadership legacy" of the institute's Executive Chairman Jack Welch, which is built into "the DNA of the program," and who also want a "flexible study schedule" and access to "notable professionals." For many, "Jack's reputation precedes him": "I chose the Jack Welch Management Institute because I wanted something that would help me stand out from other candidates when I apply for a job. . . . Business people recognize the name and know what he has done." Once enrolled, students appreciate that the administration makes them feel like "VIP customer[s]" and that the "courses and principles are relevant to current business dynamics." "The leadership class I completed was life altering," one student raves, and "the professors are clearly passionate about the topics and invested in the student." Students come to program "from all types of industries" and can expect to encounter "educators, military personnel, corporate executives and middle managers, entrepreneurs" and some students "who do not have any management experience" in their classes. A diverse student body means that there are "a lot of different perspectives to learn from": "My peers have added great value to each session," a student explains. Technologically, students feel the Blackboard platform is "user-friendly" and the program is "great about gathering feedback, reacting and improving the system." JWMI partners with Audible to provide "practical textbooks that can be used long after the program is over" in audio format. One student explains, "The use of audio books essentially give the me ability to study even while traveling for work." Another hallmark of the program is an extensive video library of keynotes from top business leaders (such as Rosalind Brewer, CEO of Sam's Club, and James McNerney, CEO of Boeing) that are integrated into every course in the curriculum. Jack Welch himself holds live webinars on a quarterly basis and students have access to "expert" guest speakers via Adobe Connect. One student says, "The guest lecturers, the case study assignments, the discussion posts and the online format are the strongest points to the program."
