Career Experience
I am a certified tutor with over 25 years of experience in tutoring K-12, undergraduate and graduate students. I began tutoring in college where I was a research fellow, teaching assistant and lab instructor for genetics, molecular and cellular biology. During law school, my focus was the intersection of law, science and technology. There I taught research and writing, was a writer and editor for the science and technology law journal, a research fellow for federal agencies on the study of DNA evidence, and became a part of the Innocence Project. Later I became an instructor, guest lecturer, mentor and research fellow at the university. I practiced law for over twenty years as a biotech patent and trademark attorney. I primarily worked with healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and nanotechnology entities in intellectual property creation, licensing, acquisition and litigation. I authored numerous published articles and gave dozens of presentations. After leaving the practice of law, I worked in healthcare at long term care, assisted living, and memory care facilities, as well as in the hospital pharmacy of a Level 2 trauma center and as a quality control specialist for a pharmaceutical company. My broad base of knowledge and experience allows me to be versatile, adaptable and able to teach from a comprehensive perspective.
I Love Tutoring Because
all I ever wanted to be when I grew up was a perpetual student. For me, tutoring is just that! I am the mother of five children, now in middle school, high school and college, whom I also have the privilege of tutoring. I am passionate about mathematics, especially teaching algebra and geometry. I love reading. literature, grammar and writing. I approach tutoring from a wholistic perspective, exploring a range of techniques in assisting students to develop an understanding and mastery of the material. I determine which strategies and avenues of learning are most effective and then tailor lessons accordingly. I summarize each lesson at the end, tying it together with prior lessons in a neat little package, so the student is able to internalize the material more efficiently. Most important, my lessons are engaging, interactive and response-driven from start to finish. I really look forward to working with you and sharing my love of learning!
