For more than a century, the Johns Hopkins University School of Education has been preparing educators to make a difference in the lives of children. Founded in 1909 as the College Courses for Teachers, the school has a long history of providing innovative academic programs and applied research that have measurably improved the quality of PK-12 ed...For more than a century, the Johns Hopkins University School of Education has been preparing educators to make a difference in the lives of children. Founded in 1909 as the College Courses for Teachers, the school has a long history of providing innovative academic programs and applied research that have measurably improved the quality of PK-12 education, especially in the most challenged urban schools. Today, the school addresses some of the most pressing problems facing public education today through:

- Graduate and doctorate programs - Research and development activities - External partnerships - Collaborative connections to the broader Johns Hopkins research community

Because of its unique organizational structure and entrepreneurial spirit, the school is able to quickly respond to changing educational needs. Whether the response is programmatic, research or partnership based, it is grounded in the Johns Hopkins tradition of research and innovation. In addition, SOE faculty, researchers and students have an extraordinary opportunity to collaborate with world renowned colleagues across Johns Hopkins in cross-disciplinary initiatives that explore how scientific research can impact education.

To support its mission, the school houses two nationally recognized research and development centers: the Center for Research and Reform in Education, and the Center for Technology in Education.

The School of Education awards more than 500 master's degrees in education annually, the largest number by any institution in Maryland. Five academic departments offer a variety of graduate and certificate programs in teaching preparation, special education, counseling, educational leadership, reading, and educational technology. Doctoral degrees are offered in special education and in teacher development and leadership. Classes are offered at the universityÂ’s Homewood, Columbia and Montgomery County campuses.
