Study Abroad in Australia
In Australia, you'll find yourself in one of the most unique places on Earth. Although Australia receives very little rainfall, its vegetation and resources have sustained one of the oldest existing indigenous populations, the Aborigines, for over 50,000 years.
During your study abroad experience in Australia you'll witness the mind-boggling diversity that has made the continent a sought-after destination for western explorers, tourists, and academics since the 18th Century, when Europeans first began colonization.
If you choose to study in Australia your first stop will probably be Sydney, a vibrant metropolis offering a wide range of artistic, historical, culinary, and sporting opportunities. Located on a magnificent natural harbor on Australia's Gold Coast, Sydney is home to the famous Harbour Bridge and the soaring Opera House. The Gold Coast is known for its beautiful beaches and scenic sub-tropical hinterland attractions. It offers a wonderful climate, with mild (that is, non-existent) winters and warm, sunny summers. It's a safe, friendly area with plenty to offer students looking to fill their time away from school. Brisbane, the capital of Queensland and Australia's third largest city, is only 45 miles away and is readily accessible by public transportation.
To see the real Australia, however, you'll have to journey away from the cities. There's a lot to see, both inland and off the mainland. Much of Australia is covered by the rugged and barren Outback, home to many Aboriginal tribes for thousands of years. Throughout this weathered landscape you'll find countless rock and cave paintings that date back tens of thousands of years. Australia's isolated landscape is home of some of the world's most unique wildlife: kangaroo, koala, emu, platypus, and wombat, to name just a few. Off the Gold Coast, in the Great Barrier Reef, you'll find marine biological wonders that rival those of Australia's expansive terrain, and yes, the beaches are out of this world!
Many host universities and colleges offer flexible academic curricula and work with an extensive network of tour guides and accommodations so that visiting students can take advantage of everything Australia has to offer.
