All MUA faculty have an advanced medical and/or doctoral degree (MD, MBBS, PhD) with postgraduate training in a medical or academic specialty, as well as demonstrated experience in teaching and/or research. We also look for something more in our faculty: a strong desire to work closely with the students they teach.

Medical University of the Americas actively seeks students who have the passion and the drive to succeed in rapidly changing medical world. The University accepts students from wide educational and geographic backgrounds, with the belief that such a diverse student body can only enrich the overall educational experience. Students or graduates of any accredited college or university in the world are invited to apply to MUA. Students who lack the pre-medical coursework can take advantage of the highly structured Pre-medical Program ("Gateway Program") offered at MUA.

Medical University of the Americas was founded over 20 years ago on a philosophy of education that believes students are best taught medicine in small classes, with one-on-one instruction, and with a commitment to providing an education on par with U.S. and Canadian medical schools.

Today MUA continues to adhere to those founding principles, and has earned a reputation for academic excellence — and graduate success — that has made it a leader among international medical schools.

MUA's academic program is based on the integrated, systems-based approach in use at top U.S. medical schools. Diverse learning opportunities include interactive lectures, small-group work sessions, individual and group presentations, team-based learning, and simulations with standardized patients.

In addition, our program offers learning experiences you won't find at big international schools. For example, MUA's first-semester anatomy class includes dissection of cadavers, as at many U.S. medical schools, giving you early hands-on training you won't get at the bigger schools.

Also, MUA offers a special research module that teaches you critical analytical skills you'll need throughout your medical career to evaluate and assimilate scientific evidence and continually expand your knowledge.

Majors and Degrees Offered



MUA's academic program parallels the approach in use at top U.S. medical schools. Diverse learning opportunities include interactive lectures, small-group work sessions, individual and group presentations, team-based learning, and simulations with standardized patients. As a result of this teaching approach, between 2015 and 2019, our students achieved an average first-time pass rate of 95% on the USMLE Step 1 exam, a testament to the excellent quality of the Basic Sciences program at MUA.

MUA is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), the accrediting body for Nevis. The University is also accredited by the St. Kitts and Nevis Accreditation Board. Additionally, MUA is approved by New York and Florida, and recognized by California. These accreditations, approvals and recognitions enable our graduates to be licensed to practice throughout the United States and Canada.

MUA has three start terms per year: January, May and September.

Students attending Medical University of the Americas can take advantage of a range of public and private options to help finance their medical education:

In the U.S., MUA has been approved to participate in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford and Grad PLUS Loan programs, which are both administered by the U.S. Department of Education.

Canadian students are eligible for Federal Loans through the Ministry of Education Student Support Branch in the province of residence.

In addition, students may also be eligible for private student loans.

Since its founding in 1998, Medical University of the Americas has awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree to nearly 2000 graduates. As measured by the residency appointments and professional accomplishments of our graduates, the most important measure of any school, MUA has been extremely successful. In a typical year, MUA students obtain residencies across the full range of medical specialties, from anesthesiology and family medicine to neurology and surgery. A significant number are selected as Chief Residents, and many pursue Fellowship (subspecialty) training following their residencies.
