Located in Pennsylvania's Pocono Northeast region, our 56-acre hillside campus is in the heart of a city of 75,000, just two hours from New York City, N.Y., Philadelphia, Pa., and Hartford, Conn.

Because, in so many ways, learning does not stop at the classroom door, Scranton provides a range of activities and support services for leadership development, personal enrichment, and simply for fun and recreation.

Giving back to and partnering with the community are integral parts of The University of Scranton. The University is one of only 119 schools in the country that earned the 2008 Community Engagement Classification designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. This recognizes Scranton for success in curricular engagement and outreach partnerships. At the University, more than 160 courses have service learning components and 11 academic departments have a service-learning requirement.

Scranton faculty members have a passion for teaching. It shows in the innovative ways they engage students in the educational experience and is evident in their care for students as individuals. When it comes to scholarly activity, Scranton professors rival the best. Their works are published widely in prestigious scholarly journals. They are featured in national media and are frequent presenters at national and international conferences. Their research projects, many of which are conducted with the assistance of students, are often supported by competitive grants.

In a new U.S. News and World Report ranking for 2011, Scranton was tied for third among the Master's Universities in the North, and among only 86 in the nation recognized for a "Strong Commitment to Teaching." According to U.S. News, this peer assessment ranking identifies "schools where the faculty has an unusually strong commitment to undergraduate teaching Â– schools that emphasize this aspect of academic life."

Our students are high achievers, too. Since 1972, University of Scranton students have received 128 Fulbright's and other prestigious fellowships. In addition, students earned four Truman Scholarships and eight Goldwater Scholarships in the past eight years alone. Of the 428 senior applicants to health professions schools over the last 10 years, an average of 80% were accepted to schools of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, podiatry and optometry.

In the past seven years, more than 300 Scranton graduates have received acceptance into at least 70 law schools throughout the United States, including some of the nation's most prestigious, such as Boston College, Cornell University, Duke University, Georgetown University and the University of Notre Dame.

Because more majors mean more opportunities for you, Scranton offers 61 bachelor's degree programs, 45 minors, 25 master's degree programs and a doctor of physical therapy program through four colleges and schools.

The University of Scranton is nationally recognized for its academic excellence. For the past 17 years U.S. News has ranked Scranton among the 10 finest master's universities in the North.

In addition, U.S. News listed the University was one of the "Great Schools at a Great Price," which relates academic quality to the cost of attendance. This is the seventh consecutive year Scranton has made this listing of just 15 schools in the North. The University's Kania School of Management was included among the elite colleges listed in the U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Graduate Schools."

For three consecutive years, the University has made the list of 610 universities published in Forbes.com's "America's Best Colleges.Â” Also, The Princeton Review listed Scranton among "The Best 373 Colleges" in the nation for the ninth consecutive year and the Kania School of Management among the "Best 301 Business Schools" for the fifth consecutive year.
