Special Facilities: The Athenaeum is the flagship building of campus, weaving together the various threads of life at Goucher under one roof. The 103,000 square foot building, open 24 hours a day during the semester, features a technologically superior library; a forum for public events; classrooms; a café; an art gallery; a center for community service programming; and spaces for exercise, conversation, and relaxation. The recently renovated 62,000-square-foot Academic Center at Julia Rogers is a place where science, humanities, and social science disciplines merge into one academic whole. The facility boasts technology-enhanced classrooms and state-of-the-art research and teaching labs, an international commons to facilitate cultural exchange, and the Welch Center for Graduate and Professional Studies. The Academic Center for Excellence offers study-skills workshops, peer-led supplemental instruction, and yoga, meditation, and Reiki sessions. Goucher also has a TV studio, three multi-purpose performance spaces ranging in size from a few hundred to 1,000 seats, a robotics lab, a rooftop observatory providing public observing, advanced teaching labs for physics and computer science, research labs for math, physics, and psychology, a technology/learning center, international technology and media center, and centers for writing, math, and politics. Also located on Goucher's campus are equestrian stables and riding areas, a community garden, and nature trails.
