Stewart Airport in Newburgh is 20 miles from the academy. Rental cars and taxis are available at the airport for the trip to West Point.

The main highways leading to the academy are U.S. Rte. 9W and the Palisades Interstate Pkwy.; a more scenic Rte. is NY State Rte. 218. From these roads, follow direction signs to West Point and the Academy.

Hotel Thayer is on campus (914-446-4731) overlooking the majestic Hudson River. Rates are moderate. Within a couple of miles of West Point are the U.S. Academy Motel (Rte. 218, Highland Falls; 914-446-2021) and the Best Western Palisades Motel (Rtes. 218 and 94, Highland Falls; 914-446-9400). Both are inexpensive. By far the most interesting choice is Bear Mountain Inn (Bear Mountain State Park, Bear Mountain; 914-786-2731), a 1920 lodge with a lovely view of the Hudson, an outdoor pool, a gift shop, a restaurant, and hiking trails. Rates are moderate on the weekend and at the top of the inexpensive range during the week.

Cold Spring is 20 miles from West Point. Pig Hill Bed and Breakfast (73 Main St. 914-265-9247) houses 8 rooms in its 1850s brick building. Some have fireplaces and four-poster and canopy beds. Rates vary from moderate to expensive and include a full breakfast.
