Academics
At Duquesne, a private Catholic university in Pittsburgh, students are “thoughtful, dedicated to success, morally and spiritually driven, diverse, and are not only interested in serving our community within the Pittsburgh region, but strive to make a difference in areas around the globe.” There is “an unspoken respect between students that promotes unity and success throughout the campus.” The school is “very focused on providing a friendly yet professional, scholarly Catholic education” and “serving students by serving [G]od is the [school’s] motto,” though other faiths are welcome, too. Students say that their school is “all about growth of the student through mind, body, and spirit—the whole person, you are not just a number.” With small class sizes, “it’s easy to get to know the professor one-on-one and it’s easier to become close to other students because you see them so frequently.” While professors receive mixed reviews, most “are very thorough in their teaching and pride themselves in their work” and are “passionate and helpful.” Duquesne “wants students to be successful” and does everything it can “to make [students into] the best teachers, nurses, lawyer, musicians, etc. that we can be. They give us an immense amount of resources on campus and throughout the community and city of Pittsburgh to excel in our careers.”
