Academics

Westminster College has a "beautiful," "small campus that creates a very tight-knit community, but it also commits itself to global involvement." Many students "like the student-to-faculty ratio" that guarantees "a lot of individual attention from my teachers" "and choose this school because it has excellent classes and academic standards." Students tell us that "everyone at this school genuinely cares about your success." One junior accounting major says, "The administration and professors are always available to students, and they actually sit down and listen," while another gushes, "the professors here are intelligent, dedicated, and the cream of the crop in their respective fields. No where else are teachers as helpful and accessible are they are at Westminster." Don't expect the ride to be easy though, "Professors expect me to do a load of papers," says one student. But don't worry, "It is tough, but with help you can get through it."

Student Body

Our school only has about 1,000 students and since it's a private school, it's pretty expensive. Most students are well-off or smart enough to get a lot of financial aid. "Most of the students at Westminster are upper-middle-class Caucasians, though that is becoming less and less so with each class," says a senior secondary education major. However, all students "take their academic work very seriously, as well as their party life. Students have fun, but they still work hard." One sophomore says, "There are so many different students here that is hard to pick one profile…there are jocks, geeks, nerds, party people…everyone." Though most students seem to be "preppy, well-kept kids," "there are individuals from across the country and world."

Campus Life

The town [of Fulton] itself is rather small…but having a larger city like Columbia only 20 minutes away seems to quiet big-city needs. Most students seem to feel that, "life at school is great. We study hard during the week and have fun on the weekend. There is always something to do no matter who you are or what you like." Overall, students here enjoy the safe feeling offered by campus. One sophomore says, "The students feel safe to walk into any fraternity and be able to leave stuff there in the living room and know it will not be stolen." Some are a bit overwhelmed by Greek life, "If you're not a male and you're not in a fraternity, you're part of the out group," but alternate options abound. One student sums up her life at Westminster; "As I walked [around] campus I felt at home. Westminster is more than just a school; it's a home and community. It wasn't just a place to go get an education but rather a place to learn to grow up."
