A “prestigious institution,” The Manderson Graduate School of Business, housed in the Culverhouse College of Commerce at the University of Alabama, provides MBA students with “great value.” Manderson MBA students can choose from six specializations, including business analytics, finance, financial risk, real estate, strategic management and marketing, or supply chain and operations management. Students spotlight Manderson’s “strong analytics departments,” which seamlessly teach individuals how to present “quantitative and qualitative analysis with ease.” Students also highlight the “small size of [their] cohort[s]” which truly allows them “to develop relationships with one another, the faculty, and the administration.” And speaking of faculty, students eagerly describe their professors as “knowledgeable” individuals who “care deeply” and are “there to help when you need them.” As one student boasts, “I have had faculty members replying to my emails in the middle of the night. That’s a lot of dedication.” Similarly, the “administration also has an open door policy and [is] always open to suggestions from students.” They make it known that they have the students’ “best interests in mind” and constantly strive to “help [them] achieve [their] potential.”

When it comes to job hunting, the Manderson MBA program boasts distinct advantages: “the relationship[s] and pervasiveness of the alumni network.” Indeed, Alabama students frequently turn to graduates for career advice. There are “TONS of networking opportunities,” student say, through alumni and the office of Graduate Career Services, where students can receive assistance with crafting resumes and cover letters, conduct mock interviews and utilize numerous job search tools. They can also turn to Handshake, Alabama’s online recruiting management system, which is available 24/7. Students use it to access job postings, view career fair information and manage their resumes. Some MBA candidates here assert, “Students should expect to be on their own when searching for internships/full-time opportunities.” Importantly, Manderson MBAs can be found working within many amazing companies including BMW, PwC, WalMart, Hewlett Packard, Procter & Gamble, Compass Bank, Sterne Agee, Chesapeake Consulting, St. Vincent Hospital, and Alabama Power.

Campus Life

Students Say

Prospective MBAs will be delighted to hear that the Manderson Graduate School of Business is teeming with “lots of opportunities to learn and grow.” To begin with, “extracurricular activities [such as] intramural sports [and] MBA case team…are promoted throughout the year, and participation is high.” Further, the “MBA Association (MBAA) does a good job of hosting social parties to let the students bond and de-stress.” And certainly, the university at large hosts “great athletic events which are fun for students to attend.” We’ve also been told that when spring rolls around, the “weather is unbeatable” and many students flock to hang out “on the quad or [one of] the many parks around the city.” Lastly, though Tuscaloosa is “a small town,” students insist that it “has a lot to offer as far as restaurants, bars, and even concerts at the local amphitheater.”

When it comes to their classmates, students report that they tend to skew on the “younger” side. In fact, many “are just out of undergrad” and therefore their work “experience is minimal.” Manderson MBA students “are very friendly and approach everything in a team-oriented manner.” They also seem to place a premium on both “networking and developing friendships.” Students here are typically “hard-working” as well as “very driven and hungry for success.” And one content student sums up his experience by stating, “The Alabama MBA program does a great job of placing us in groups that get along very well with one another.”
