Academics
Coahoma Community College ensures that students have access to academic, technical, and career development programs in the Bolivar, Coahoma, Tallahatchie, Tunica, and Quitman counties of northwestern Mississippi. To best serve the needs of these students, CCC partners directly with individuals and businesses seeking to develop education programs for themselves or their employees. The result prioritizes both leadership growth and community involvement. CCC's academic and technical programs are divided across four divisions: Academics, Career and Technical, Health Sciences, and Workforce Development. Academic Affairs offers 61 areas of study in the university-parallel general education program, including math, science, information systems, art, English, and foreign languages, all of which are designed to help students transfer with an associate of art or associate of applied science degree. Coahoma's Career and Technical Education program provides pathways to careers in business, manufacturing, architecture, and transportation. And future health practitioners can pursue an associate degree in nursing or elect short-term certificate programs to become an EMT, phlebotomist, or nursing assistant.
Career
Coahoma Community College's Zee A. Barron Student Union is the capital of Tiger Nation. There, students, affectionately known as Tigers, have a wide variety of hangouts, from the picturesque gazebos to the dining hall and bowling alley, and weekly campus-run movie nights. In a nod to CCC's balance of wholesome fun and serious study, the student union also houses the ambitious student government, which works to ensure that everything from health information sessions to food truck festivals is a success. Campus camaraderie-the Tiger student spirit-extends to athletics and student organizations as well. Sports are supported at the intramural level, like table tennis, softball and flag football, as well as baseball, basketball, football, softball, and track and field as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Clubs on campus celebrate everything from academic honors to religious faith and professional pursuits.
Culture
In 2021 alone, CCC conferred 167 professional certificates and 249 associate degrees. Between that and the support from tutoring services and the school's career center, graduates have gone on to enter baccalaureate programs and rewarding careers. Notable alumni include Orlando Paden, a representative with the Mississippi State legislature; and several NBA and NFL players, including Earnie Killum, Chris Claybrooks, and Davion Taylor.
