Academic Programs
Undergraduates study in five of Illinois Tech's seven academic divisions. Illinois Tech's signature Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program is one of just a few programs like it in the country. IPRO joins students from various majors and backgrounds to work together in teams to solve real-world problems, often on behalf of sponsor companies.
Why stop with one degree? Illinois Tech's accelerated master's program allows students to complete both their bachelor's and master's degrees in as few as five years. You'll keep your undergraduate scholarships in your fifth year and pay the lower undergraduate tuition rate for graduate courses.
It's focused, highly specialized, saves you money—and you can earn your second degree in one of 50 majors.
You can also apply for our combined undergraduate/graduate law program (leading to a B.S./J.D. degree), offered with Illinois Tech's Chicago-Kent College of Law.
If you do not have a planned area of study before entering, you can choose an Undecided path from Armour College of Engineering or the College of Science, or a General Undecided.
Armour College of Engineering
Educating engineers for more than a century, Armour College of Engineering prepares its students to be the innovators and entrepreneurs that will shape the future, educating them to be leaders in the development and use of multidisciplinary approaches and technology to solve complex, socially critical problems. As a twenty-first century engineering student, you'll learn the principles of your profession and work in an interdisciplinary environment that emphasizes hands-on learning, teamwork, and leadership, all through the lens of our four engineering themes—water, health, energy, and security—that highlight issues that are vital today and will be in the future. Research at Armour is aggressively growing, and our focus ensures that students are given the opportunity to explore topics of high priority and relevance to society throughout their academic careers and beyond.
College of Architecture
With more than 800 students from 50 countries and more than 100 faculty members, the College of Architecture represents the global metropolis in miniature. Our faculty are international prize-winning architects, scholars, and engineers. Beyond the college, Chicago provides the inspiration and testing ground for our explorations, as students learn directly from one of the world's greatest cities. The College of Architecture builds on a legacy of disciplined experimentation in materials and technologies to educate and inspire the next generation of architects and landscape architects. From our landmark campus and home at S. R. Crown Hall, the college champions an interdisciplinary approach to education and research that is simultaneously local and global in its impact—and our students are educated to address complex, contemporary challenges of designing and constructing across all scales.
College of Computing
The College of Computing will develop the next generation of talent, tools, and technologies to power the tech community in Chicago and beyond. The college will train its graduates in computing, applied math, and technology and management to have both an immediate impact in their careers and the power to develop into true technology leaders. The college will take on a rare, if not unique, educational mission: to infuse computation and data skills and thinking throughout every major and course on campus. This will equip all students in every discipline to capitalize on computation and data to drive innovation and decision-making while fulfilling Illinois Tech's founding mission to prepare students of all backgrounds for meaningful roles in a changing technological society.
Lewis College of Science and Letters
Technology is playing an increasingly large role in shaping how we look at our world—what we do and how we do it. Within Lewis College of Science and Letters, we explore and explain what is happening as technology reshapes the real and virtual places where we live, work, and play. You are challenged to think critically and will strive to solve complex problems with the aid of sophisticated technology. Lewis College offers challenging and rigorous programs in science and human sciences to ambitious students with a thirst for knowledge and who want to change the world. Rigor and relevance are the two words defining our educational experience. We will give you the tools to solve today's problems and the knowledge to build the new tools to meet tomorrow's challenges.
Stuart School of Business
At Stuart School of Business, we recognize the need to prepare students for a world focused on science, technology, and innovation. We recognize Chicago's leadership in global financial markets, marketing analytics, and sustainable enterprise, and have developed academic programs that prepare our graduates to be outstanding leaders in these industries. Chicago's business community is known for its spirit of entrepreneurship, its leadership in technical innovation, and its concern for the quality of its environment. Stuart's curriculum is designed with these characteristics in mind. You will share the classroom with students from all backgrounds, representing more than 37 different countries. Stuart is committed to creating well-rounded students who are not only armed with expert academic knowledge, but who also possess the interpersonal skills and professional experiences that are critical to academic and career success.

Location
Illinois Tech's location in Chicago provides students the best of both worlds: the excitement of living in an amazing global metropolis, combined with the comfort and small-town feel of attending a private university.
Our Mies Campus is located in the city of Chicago, just 15 minutes from downtown and less a mile away from Lake Michigan. With a total enrollment of 6,840 (2,883 undergraduates), students never feel like just a number.
With endless options come unlimited opportunities to discover: diversity, inspiration, languages, landscapes, viewpoints, technology, history, future, surprises—and most importantly, yourself.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
Some of the most famous buildings in the world, designed by legendary architects, are located on Illinois Tech's Mies Campus in Chicago. S. R. Crown Hall, an elegant steel-and-glass National Historic Landmark, is a marvel of engineering and simplicity by influential architect and former head of architecture at Illinois Tech, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Elevated trains run through the Rem Koolhaas-designed McCormick Tribune Campus Center. And Helmut Jahn's Rowe Village residence hall was named one of the "coolest dorms in the nation" (U.S. News & World Report).
Ed Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation and Tech Entrepreneurship is our new home for big ideas. Open in 2018, the Kaplan Institute is the HQ of the IPRO Program, Idea Shop, world-renowned Institute of Design, and work spaces where students' entrepreneurial endeavors can incubate and flourish. Special programming fosters creativity, ideation, and no-holds-barred thinking—and is designed to help students prepare to launch the next great invention.
The Idea Shop has the equipment students need to see their ideas actually take shape, literally and figuratively. The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art, rapid-prototyping lab featuring 3-D printers and a 3-D scanner, multiple CNC milling machines, a vacuum former, and a laser cutter. Innovations come in all shapes and sizes in this massive innovation hub, but they all have two things in common: they are the byproducts of imagination and the start of something extraordinary.
In the Architecture Design/Build Studio, students experience firsthand the entire life cycle of a small-building project. Students conceptualize, draft, design, and build a structure from the ground up, and they construct their projects around the world. The program has taken students to Indonesia, Ghana, Japan, New Orleans, Chile, Germany, and Puerto Rico, where students built a community building that allows local citizens to cook for themselves and others. The project in Chile earned students a 2018 Small Project Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects Chicago.
The state-of-the-art Illinois Tech Esports and Digital Arts Center opened in August 2018, specially equipping the university's esports community. The lab, featuring 14 Alienware Aurora R7 computer stations with Alienware 25 gaming monitors, is the central hub for competitive teams to practice. The center is open to casual gamers on weekdays, and available for digital arts workshops and special events.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Let Chicago be your playground. Go to a pro game, check out a museum, see your favorite band in concert. You can do it all—and it's just minutes from campus.
Chicago is a great global city (just ask Google, GrubHub, Boeing, Orbitz, or any of the thousands of other companies with headquarters here). What does that mean for Illinois Tech students? Access to jobs in a diverse range of industries including a fast-growing tech sector. Illinois Tech is a pipeline for talent in Chicago, a city where an Illinois Tech degree is recognized and rewarded.
The surrounding Bridgeport and Bronzeville neighborhoods are great for exploring, too. Go to an edgy art gallery, eat at an old-school soul food restaurant or Italian caf?, or ride your bike along the lakefront (it's less than a mile from campus!). Because of Illinois Tech's proximity to downtown Chicago, you'll find an abundance of convenient transportation on campus. Every Illinois Tech undergraduate receives a Ventra U-Pass, which gives you unlimited access to CTA public transportation citywide.
