Rhodes is a residential college committed to excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. Our highest priorities are intellectual engagement, service to others, and honor among ourselves. We live this life on one of the country's most beautiful campuses in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee, an economic, political, and cultural center, making Rhodes one of a handful of national liberal arts and sciences colleges in a major metropolitan area.
What Rhodes offers goes beyond its top-tier liberal arts education. Rhodes offers a transformational experience, challenging students to explore innovative ideas, examine their values, and discover what they can contribute to their community and to the world.

From The School
Early Decision (ED) applicants make a commitment to Rhodes as their first-choice institution and agree that, if admitted, they will enroll and withdraw all other applications. Early Decision applicants are also most likely to gain admission and will have priority consideration for financial aid.
Rhodes begins review of ED I applications seeking financial aid on Oct. 1 and ED II applications on Nov. 15. Notifications of ED admission and scholarship decisions are normally sent out within two weeks of receipt of all supporting documents.
- Early Decision I: November 1 (Notified 2 Weeks*)
- Early Decision II: January 15 (Notified 2 Weeks*)
Early Action (EA) applicants submit their application early but are not making a binding commitment. It's great for students who want to apply early but aren't yet ready to make their final college choice.
- Early Action: November 15 (Notified by January 15)
- Regular Decision: January 15 (Notified by March 15)

Academic Programs
Through 18 academic departments and 13 interdisciplinary programs, Rhodes offers more than 50 majors, interdisciplinary majors, minors, and academic programs. Rhodes students sometimes design their own majors to suit their specific goals, and the college provides pre-professional advising for students who plan to work in the health professions, law, engineering, ministry and education. Through partnerships with other universities, Rhodes also offers dual-degree programs in engineering, education and nursing.
Majors may be directly related to a student's anticipated vocation, but that is not the primary purpose in a liberal arts curriculum. The qualities of mind and abilities that will serve students best in their careers are developed within the curriculum as a whole. The major is a refinement of intellectual discipline and a deepening of understanding of an area of study. The academic enrichment gained through a major affords access to other disciplines as well as an appreciation of the complexity of other fields of study. Students should consider carefully how all of the courses they select can enrich and complement work done in the major.

Students Say
But perhaps the highest praise is reserved for Rhodes’ faculty and staff, whom many say are the school’s “greatest strength.” Students love that their professors “each retain their unique styles, with accessibility being the only common factor.” Many “go above and beyond to help students succeed,” which is apparent from the way office hours are utilized, not just for help “but for lively discussions on papers..., for finding research opportunities, or just to chat, because they’re great humans.” And a classmate simply sums up by saying, “Professors have challenged me, and through it all, I have learned more than I ever thought possible.”

Location
Among the stone and the stained glass is a place to belong, where alongside their professors and their peers, students are supported in reaching their full potential. We value the kind of engaging dialogue that arises when students and professors work together to investigate questions and problems they care about. In this environment, students are expected to formulate and articulate big ideas and contribute in major ways to the critical discussions and debates that take place in our classrooms and laboratories.
Our collegiate-Gothic campus sits on 110 wooded acres in the heart of historic Midtown Memphis. In this beautiful, supportive environment, our students and professors comprise a community unmatched in its dedication to learning and a life of honor and integrity. The residential campus and close-knit community allow students to form lifelong relationships and create intellectual community while Rhodes' location in Memphis offers endless opportunities for community engagements and career exploration.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
With each new building constructed on the college's 123-acre wooded campus located in the heart of historic Midtown Memphis, Rhodes has maintained the Collegiate Gothic style of architecture.
Formerly the Student Center, the 19,244-square-foot Briggs Hall now houses five faculty offices and six computer labs, two research labs, and three classrooms. On the main floor, the Spence Wilson Commons includes the Spence Wilson Room for meetings and an entrance lobby. The patios at the north and south sides extend from the multipurpose room and lounge and provide inviting exterior spaces. The virtual reality lab in Briggs Hall houses equipment that will allow users to create endless virtual environments such as exploring a model of the human heart or navigating the ocean.
Robertson Hall is a 54,674-square-foot cutting-edge science facility, designed as a 21st century science building. While maintaining the Collegiate Gothic fabric, natural light to the interior spaces and beautiful exterior views are afforded through the unique use of monumental glazing—a floor to ceiling glass system—at the main entrances and west face. The building has energy-saving features, including thermal glazing, automated LED lighting, and Energy Star rated equipment and appliances.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Rhodes is in the heart of Memphis, a cultural and economic center that is home to Fortune 500 companies like FedEx and AutoZone as well as to top-tier medical and research institutions like St. Jude Children's Research and LeBonheur Children's Hospital. Over the decades, the college has formed close relationships with Memphis to offer our students the best possible opportunities in internships, fellowships, and jobs.
