Students Say

Hands-on learning, small class sizes, and easy access to faculty are typically what sell Pepperdine's MBA program to students, who say the Graziadio School of Business and Management is "unlike any other business school." "Going to school with a view of the ocean from your classroom window and study breaks on the beach is a grad school experience you can't get anywhere but Pepperdine," says a student. The Fully-Employed MBA program is designed for working professionals, and the Full-Time MBA program offers courses in an accelerated or traditional two-year format. Pepperdine Graziadio has five locations in Southern California, as well as programs in Santa Barbara, Silicon Valley, Dallas, TX, and through online and hybrid formats.

The "intellectually stimulating" faculty at Graziadio are easily accessible, and each is "committed to becoming a lifelong resource and mentor" for their students. As almost all professors work in the field, they "can give us real examples of how things can be used and applied" and are able to help with networking. "Having a practitioners' focus is a tremendous asset, since the work is not completely theoretical and aims for constant application," says a student. SEER (Socially, Environmentally, and Ethically Responsible) values are a focus of many of the entrepreneurship classes, and the emphasis on ethical business practices is a draw for many. Students also praise the opportunity to practice their skills in a "safe but very real setting" through the "truly unique" E2B (Education to Business) experiential learning program, where students work in groups with companies to solve real business issues. Often, students see their recommendations implemented at these companies when their projects are complete.

Students Say

Pepperdine has a strong reputation in California, and the school encourages network- ing events on- and off-campus, particularly where alumni can attend. That being said, many here say that the Career Management Center "could do a better job" in helping students find placement and prepare for interviews, as students have to be extremely proactive. "Nobody is going to help you fix up your résumé and find a job if you don't first show interest and ask," one student explains. Graziadio career services has recently added career staff to all campuses, including satellite campuses, and increased career services offered (individual consultations, events, etc.) to both current students and alumni. Typical companies that recruit Pepperdine MBA graduates include AT&T, Bank of America, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and Mattel.

Campus Life

Students Say

The main campus is "tucked into a quaint beach community only a short drive into the city," but given the geographic spread of students across campuses, "a commuter cul- ture can develop or students cluster and spend time off-campus." Pepperdine students are "very friendly and approachable—it's the culture of the business school." Life at Graziadio is "very familial," and there are organizations and clubs for everyone from "concentration-specific organizations to spiritual clubs and organizations that help sup- port like-minded causes." These welcoming groups are "great ways to interact beyond the classroom" and build a sense of community. A large international population means "many different worldly views are brought to the table [that] enhance the conversation," contributing to a "great group of intelligent, ambitious, and collaborative professionals who all work together to learn as much as possible."
