Faculty Information

Students Say

A "Business Analytics specialty, AASCB accreditation, value, flexibility" and "residency" all figure prominently in students' reasons for choosing an online MBA from the University of South Dakota's Beacom School of Business. The program offers customized specializations in Health Services Administration and Business Analytics, and the entire MBA curriculum consists of 18 hours of foundations courses and 33 hours of advanced business coursework. Classes occasionally require a 3–7 day residency on campus, which students say is a "very exciting" time where they "[enjoy]" getting to meet one another in person and to network across the country." As they get to know other students in their cohorts, students say those they encounter are "friendly and personable," from "all industries and job fields." Fellow students are always "glad to share their work experience for the benefit of the class" and aren't shy about "asking questions and guiding intellectual conversation." USD MBA classes are filled with students who have "real world experience" and come from "all over North America." The "superior" and "responsive" professors provide students with an "academic challenge" but stay "actively engaged with the class; they clearly [specify] expectations and [are] always available to help." "Administration at USD as a whole is very engaging and seemingly apart of my individual journey in the MBA program. USD offers a very personal touch to the program." USD's technological platform facilitates effective learning: "D2L [is] easy to use," and "the online experience is surprisingly rich in interaction with the professor and other students." In praise of both their peers and the learning platform, one student tells us that "discussion on D2L often reach deeply into related content and sometimes some very interesting unrelated directions. Being able to pause and rewind lectures is tremendously helpful." Students appreciate the program's adaptability to their busy lives, citing everything from "the flexibility of exam scheduling" to the "stellar" student-support administrative staff who "respond quickly to inquiries and in those rare instances where they don't know something they immediately are on task to get you what you need." Students also say getting a heads up on future assignments helped them plan: "Almost all my classes had assignments available for long enough so that I can complete it when I need to even when work is extremely busy, either over a weekend, or the week before it's due. Flexibility is a major strength of this program."
